What is a Cobb Salad?
Robert Cobb, the owner of the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant, created the first Cobb salad in 1937 after combining everything he had on hand out of sheer hunger. It became popular right away, and news got out. "Cobb's salad" became a popular order when celebrities began to arrive, and the rest is history. Sadly, the original LA Brown Derby is no longer in existence, but this famous dish is still available on numerous restaurant menus. Even better, you can create this salad at home with ease and adjust it to your preferences.

Cobb Salad Ingredients:
For the Dressing
- 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 tablespoon honey
- 3/4 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 2 cloves garlic , finely minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
For the Salad
- 6 cups chopped romaine lettuce , rinsed and dried
- 2 seasoned, roasted chicken breasts (sliced or chopped)
- 3 hard-boiled eggs (quartered, sliced, or chopped)
- 1 large avocado (sliced or chopped)
- 8 slices bacon , cooked until crispy, chopped
- 1 cup cherry or grape tomatoes , halved crosswise
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
- 4 ounces crumbled Roquefort blue cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped chives
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper , to taste
How to Make a Cobb Salad
- Creating the dressing Put all the ingredients in a container with a secure lid. Shake ferociously until well combined and emulsified. If required, add extra salt and pepper after tasting and adjusting the spices. Place aside.
- A white serving dish should have a bed of lettuce on it. Top with rows of cherry tomatoes, red onion, blue cheese, avocado, chicken, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, and cherry tomatoes.
- Add chives as a garnish and salt & pepper to taste.
- Just before serving, drizzle some dressing over the salad. Guests are welcome to add more, if they'd like.
