Sweet & Sour Cauliflower Ingredients

 For the battered cauliflower:

  • 1 head of cauliflower
  • 1 tsp olive oil or parchment paper
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water

For the sweet & sour sauce:

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or sub agave
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1-2 garlic cloves chopped
  • 1/2 inch fresh ginger chopped
  • 1-2 tsp chili garlic sauce optional
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1/4 cup water

Toppings:

  • 2 green onions chopped
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 450°F and lining a large baking sheet with parchment paper or olive oil.
  2. Cauliflower should be finely chopped.
  3. The batter is made by combining water and flour in a big bowl. Mix thoroughly until pieces are gone.
  4. Before placing the cauliflower on the oiled baking sheet, dip each piece into the flour/water mixture and let any excess batter drip off.
  5. 20 to 25 minutes of baking (turn halfway through and cook until crispy).
  6. Make the sauce while the cauliflower bakes! The soy sauce and maple syrup should be combined with a whisk in a large skillet set over medium heat.
  7. After that, combine the mixture with the rice vinegar and sesame oil.
  8. Garlic, ginger, and chili garlic sauce (if using) have now been added. Mix.
  9. Combine cornstarch and 1/4 cup of water in a small bowl. To dissolve it, combine this.
  10. Remix the sauce after adding the cornstarch/water.
  11. Allow the sauce to simmer until it thickens and gets sticky (you might need to raise the heat up a little).
  12. The cauliflower should be coated with sauce in a sizable mixing basin before being transferred to a serving bowl. Sesame seeds and green onions go on top. Enjoy!
